About

Our Mission

On My Watch Alabama aims to address this critical issue by providing non-medical  care to elderly and disabled individuals. Our services include:

  1. Compassionate Companionship: Trained volunteers visit clients, offering emotional support, companionship, and a listening ear.
  2. Assistance with Daily Activities: We help with tasks such as meal preparation, light housekeeping, and transportation.
  3. Personal Care Services: Empower elderly and disabled individuals to maintain their independence and dignity.
  4. Assistance with self-care activities allows them to remain in their homes and communities, rather than being institutionalized.
  5. Family Caregiver Burnout: Many disabled individuals rely on family members as caregivers. The burden on family caregivers can lead to burnout and negatively impact their own health. Access to professional personal care services alleviates this burden and supports both the disabled individual and their caregivers.

I’m 46 years old, with a wonderful husband and 4 wonderful children, as well as one adorable and sassy grandchild. Our youngest son was born with Down syndrome back in 2004, and from him, I learned about patience and understanding. I learned that every life is valuable and has something to contribute to the world. I could write a book on how this child changed my life in ways that I didn’t even realize needed changing.

I am not a perfect person, nor will I ever be. And that’s okay. I enjoy talking to and learning about new people. My most gratifying experiences in my former professional career, was building new relationships. As a sales professional and Finance Manager, I was constantly told that money should be my motivating factor, and it just never was. In a nutshell, I was a square peg in a round hole. I loved coaching my customers on the buying process, letting them know what to expect and when, and truly advocating for their best interests. I have made so many friends in my years as a sales professional, and these I count as true friends, among the most treasured relationships from my adult life. I have learned many things about who I am as a person in these past 13 years as a sales or finance professional. I’ve learned that there is no amount of money that replaces the value of the time you spend with your family. I learned that money is a necessity only to allow a comfortable life, and that if I had all of the money in the world, it would be of no value without my family and the experiences with them. I learned that I have no desire to become wealthy.

My ultimate purpose on this planet and in this life is to help other people, and that is truly where I feel fulfilled. I also learned that I am a people pleaser, but not in a negative way. I’m always open to learning new ways to accomplish tasks, and I’m always open to constructive criticism. I realized many years ago that there is no room for ego in a working environment. I am, however, a problem solver and I love coming up with a unique answer to a given situation. I tend to work very well under pressure. I know that every single person I encounter deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. I believe there is never a reason to be unkind, or to use words and actions to hurt someone.

In April of 2023, my father became very ill. He ultimately was admitted to the hospital with a severe infection that threatened his life and interfered with his neurological abilities. This is where the extreme need for patient advocates to be on hand 24 / 7 was realized. Our hospitals are over-worked and under staffed, for a plethora of reasons that just don’t belong here. The fact of the matter is that it is real, and we all need help.

There is no one family member that can manage all of this either in the hospital or in the home. I spent the month after the hospital, rotating with a couple of family members, to see to my parents being able to manage my father’s recovery.

Everyone who will be in our care will be treated with the same diligence and care as if they were our own child or parent. That is my vow to you, and I take that very seriously. Your loved one’s life, dignity and wellbeing is important and valued, and they are irreplaceable. I will 100% welcome and give my approval to being recorded, be it video or audio only, while in your home and caring for your loved one. While this venture is brand new, and I likely don’t have any reviews for this business as of yet, please know that I am happy to provide character references from within my family and customers earned throughout the years.

IN OUR SPARE TIME, we enjoy boating! We love to sit on the back patio, listen to music, and maintain our friendships with the backyard squirrels. We love any opportunity to travel and have been known to enjoy a New Orleans Saints game more than a few times.
